Alan Leal – Massage Therapist | Bike Fitter

Ballarat-Chiropractor-Dr-Phillip-Roberts-Family-Chiropractor

Hi, I’m Alan Leal.

I’ve been a massage therapist and sports therapist since 2004.

I’m also an avid cyclist and have been fitting bikes to people for over a decade.

In 2020 I launched Power2Move to help more people overcome injury and enjoy their sport again – without pain, soreness or discomfort.

After experiencing my own sports injuries, performance setbacks and fitness frustrations, I understand the disappointment and de-motivation that cycling injuries – or any injury affecting your mobility and sporting activity – can have on your physical and mental health.

Now, by offering therapeutic support and tailored advice, I help my clients overcome injury, avoid further damage and regain their ability to move efficiently with sustainable power.

In fact, to see you recover and perform at your best, doing the sport you love, is my end goal.

A little more about Alan Leal

As a young man I rode mountain bikes (MTB) and absolutely loved it. It was a fun, active hobby that kept me fit, lean and strong.

Plus, I enjoyed the exhilaration of racing trails where anything could happen around the next bend. I loved the sense of achievement and the adrenalin rush!

Yet, by the time I turned 30, my life looked vastly different to my mountain biking days. I was happily married, a father of two toddlers, and working long days in a demanding corporate job.

But somehow – like many others in a similar situation – I’d put my health and fitness priorities on hold. Perhaps you can relate?

My wake-up call was calling

One day, my wife, to whom I’ll be forever grateful for her astute observation, said, “You’re getting too fat and I’m scared you won’t see 35 if you don’t make some changes.”

And she was right! I was feeling terrible. I weighed around 110 kg. I’d gone from high-range cycling and weighing 62 kg, to doing nothing and feeling extremely unhealthy and unfit.

So, I said to myself, “Let’s get this done”. Right then and there I picked road cycling as my weight loss exercise because it was a familiar sport.

I’d loved the mountain biking in my youth, so I was hoping I could rekindle that joy on a road bike and get motivated.

But getting fit wasn’t easy

For me, getting back on the bike and losing weight came with its challenges.

At first, I couldn’t cycle for more than five kilometres without feeling like I was on the verge of a major heart attack.

However, I stuck with it, and gradually, by the time I was 34 years old, I’d regained a level of fitness I was happy with.

I was a stronger, leaner 70 kg. And, as you can imagine, I was much happier about my health and appearance at my 35th birthday celebrations. So was my wife!

A massage therapist & bike fitter in Rosebery

Around this time, I discovered massage therapy and got busy gaining various massage and health qualifications. After knee surgery and undergoing my own trial and error with bike fit adjustments to get back into cycling, I was keen to learn and understand bike fitting too.

While I had earlier success in A and B grade cycling events and races, nowadays I enjoy the camaraderie of long 150 to 200+ km bunch rides with cycling groups, charity ride events, energetic rides with friends and solo rides to clear my head.

I’m over 50 now, and continuing to keep myself lean and healthy with regular and consistent cycling. Plus, I’m super-excited about Power2Move and helping cyclists and sportspeople enhance your athletic performance, no matter what your age or injury history is.

Feel free to reach out and say g’day. I’d love to hear your story and support your health goals.
